With the aid of funding from Scottish Natural Heritage, this collaborative pilot project with Fife Coast and Countryside Trust, Newburgh Primary School and Elspeth English, an Environmental Educator, took place as part of the celebrations for Scottish Environment Week from 12-18 February.
Ailie Cohen and her puppet animation company Hoodwink, a jewel in the crown of the Scottish Puppet Animation Festival, were invited by the FAC to visit Newburgh on Thursday 29th March to perform Jazz Mouse. The performance had originally been scheduled to take place in the new Project Space in the Steeple, but when this proved impossible Newburgh Primary School, led by inspirational head teacher Susan Mitchell, stepped into the breach, and a truly magical experience was had by all.
During the month of April Plum Job artist in residence Jeanette Sendler led two popular open studio workshops in the FAC's temporary space at 65A High Street: an introduction to free style machine knitting and silk paper making. See Jeanette's May Newsletter.
Open Studios Fife (north) had its second event on the 5th and 6th of May this year. 26 studios were open to the public for the weekend. Although the studios in The Steeple Building aren’t yet available, the artists to whom they have been allocated all submitted work to show at 65A High Street, a temporary space next door to the Steeple. We had 300 visitors over the two days, and a number of items were sold.
During September Jeanette led three workshops on a fruit harvest theme under the name "Action Windfall":
PRINT IT (Print making on bags)
JAM IT (3D felt making, creating covers for bottles & jars)
BOX IT (making foldaway paper boxes in Japanese style)

Two primary classes from Newburgh Primary School took part in an indoor and outdoor weaving event under the watchful eyes of their teachers and Jeanette Sendler and Tracey McConnell-Wood. The outdoor bit in particular was the scene of much hilarity!
